Starting in 2005, Arctic Surf Designs built and operated one of the most capable Santa photo operations in the National Capital Region. Over more than 20 years, we ran seasonal Santa shoots across multiple shopping centres — not by hiring it out, but by designing the entire system in-house from the ground up.
Every component of the operation was custom-built: the order management software running on Mac, the iPad kiosk app used for photo display and selection, the print controller that handed a finished package to a customer in under two minutes, and the workflows that made it possible for a small team to handle the volume demands of peak holiday shopping season.
The result was a system that competitors couldn't match on speed, package variety, or print quality. 99% of all packages were produced on true photographic prints — not inkjet or laser — using professional lab-grade equipment. Over the full run of the operation, more than 500,000 photo packages were printed and handed to families across the Ottawa–Gatineau region.
